Getting Started

  2. Choose a theme skin
  3. BigSlide comes with 12 pre-defined skins. To help you quickly setup your theme, you may select one of the skins before start customizing the theme options.

Customize the theme

All theme options are available in the WordPress theme customizer:

  • Header
  • You can change the site logo, favicon and header size from here. The headline text is displayed at the very top of your site. It is typically for displaying announcement such as promotional message.

  • Home Page
  • On the home page, you can customize the slider transition Effect, how many seconds to pause between slides, and whether to show slider's caption or not. Promotional Box is displayed right below the home page slider. Excerpt Boxes display excerpts from pages or custom posts that you specified. If you have setup logo's URL in portfolios, you can display them on home page. Home Page Textbox is an additional content area near the bottom. This area gets less attention from your visitors, but for SEO purpose, you may put some additional text content to there. This textbox is optional to use.

  • Styles
  • You can customize site font, Google font and theme color. You may turn off the built-in Lightbox if you prefer to use an external Lightbox plugin. "Enable Skin Changer" will let you to choose skins from your site front-end when you are logged in as administrator. You can put your custom CSS code in the "Custom CSS" box, they will override the classes defined in built-in style sheets.

  • Layout
  • You can set the default page template to use left sidebar, right sidebar, both sidebars or without sidebar. Home page has its own sidebar setting, and you can optionally use footer sidebar to display widgets in footer area. If you prefer to have more room on left/right sidebar, check off the Wide Sidebar checkbox. Breadcrumbs can be disable or enable from here.

  • Portfolio
  • This theme has two custom post types, portfolio custom post type and staff custom post type. You can change the label and description for their index page. You can specify the number of portfolios per row on index page.

  • Marketing
  • This section allows you to specify your social network accounts, simply enter the URL of your accounts, the URLs will be embedded as links when you use the Social Icon shortcodes on your website.

  • Website
  • Here you can enter site title tag, meta keywords and meta description for SEO, the "Read more" button label, Google Analytics code, message for 404 page template, footer text and credits.

Home Page Slider

Home page slider is used to showcase featured images, each image is linked to a page or custom post. It is a good way to let your visitor click through to the linked page. To setup slides (images), go to the page or custom post, check off the "Show featured image in home page slider" to have the featured image include in the slider. A cached version of the featured image will be created, cropping and centering of the cached image are handled automatically.

Page Templates

This theme has the following page templates:

  • Contact Form
  • Page with Left Sidebar
  • Page with Right Sidebar
  • Page with left and right Sidebar
  • Page without Sidebar
If you don't use any of the page templates, the default page template sidebar setting in Theme Customizer will be used.

Custom Post Types

  • Portfolio Custom Post Type
  • Use portfolio custom posts to showcase your works or projects. Portfolios can be grouped by category, they will be present in a filterable grid layout on index page. You can upload photos to portfolio custom post, and they can be automatically displayed as gallery with thumbnails. The index page can be access by http://domain/portfolios/.

  • Staff Custom Post Type
  • This custom post type is used to display your staffs and departments. It is very convenient for creating a staffs directory that present nicely with the pre-defined formats. The index page can be access by http://domain/staffs/.
